With the resumption of work and the current H1N1 situation as it is, I am reminded of this stanza of a song by Mayday.

New Term.

First day of the new term tomorrow. Another 4 months of toil. Not really looking forward to wrangle of office politics and excessive admin work. But I remember the words of my friend and mentor Stephen: "Always place your students first, then everything else will not affect you." I will try to stay out of the cross-fire this time.

Goodbye Michael.

Are You Ok Annie
You've Been Hit By
You've Been Hit By-
A Smooth Criminal

I was going to write about the Concave Scream's performance I attended with Lulu and KenC last night at Timbre, but then I think it's more apt to write about the death of Michael Jackson. No doubt every newspaper in the world tomorrow will carry the story of his death by cardiac arrest. I am not jumping on the bandwagon. Like many of my contemporaries, the news shocked and saddened me. Jaime broke the news to me this afternoon, and I couldn't believe it. I think perhaps, because he had always been around, I had come to believe that he would always be around, amusing us with ever more weird antics. Many of us, we moved up to secondary school in the early nineties where we started listening to music on the radio. We started with Pop and Michael Jackson was the King of Pop, the Moonwalker. He was by far the biggest name in music then. We all tried to moon walk at school. I remember being mesmerized the first time I saw the MTV of "Smooth Criminal". I remember buying his cassette tape and listening to Thriller over and over again. I remember playing his video game on the Sega games console at Burong's place. He was Wacko Jacko, but we grew up with him, we grew up as he grew old and despite all the negative publicity later on, I always carried a slight admiration for him.

Goodbye Michael, you will be missed.

New Blog!

I have come up with another blog, http://D700rocks.blogspot.com , which will focus more on photography. That doesn't mean there won't be any more photos here. Just less geek-talk.

Concave Scream's latest album. Yeap this is what it looks like. You must be surprised, or amused.

How cool is this eh? It's called Soundtrack for a book. Me writing it down is redundant as you can read it yourself from the picture. It's an ingenious idea. Jaime thinks so too. I got it without even listening to it because it's just so unique. Turns out the tracks are all instrumental.

What else? Let's see. On Tuesday, in the afternoon, I went for the Steve McCurry(Magnum Photographer, of Afghan Girl fame) exhibition at the Asian Civilization Museum with my girlfriend. And then on Jacob's last night in Singapore, together with Yici and Faith, I had dinner and then dessert (at 2am) with him. He's going back home to California this morning, a long 20 hour flight. I will miss him at work.

Bon Voy
age and godspeed my friend!

The Fuji F31fd is a nifty little compact camera. I have got the underwater case too. Dying to go diving with it, but can't seem to find any kakis. Sigh, and the holidays are ending.

On Monday morning, 4 days away from the resumption of my chores, I am reminiscing on my holiday down under.

The Devil's marbles. A valley strewn with giant circular boulders. One of our pit stops along the way from Darwin to Uluru.

With the heatwave on, everyone is stuck at home, in front of their computers, in compressed air.

I am stuck doing the same. I cannot help but miss the road.

Back from a wonderful vacation and road-trip into the red center of Australia. Lots of photos to process. But first, sleep.

At the boarding area in Terminal One now, waiting for the gates to open. Will be on a week's holiday (a well-deserved one I feel) in the Austalian outback. Take care all my friends.

My recent foray, or some may call it a regression, back into film, has seen me purchase a negative scanner. Prices have really come down and my parents, who are looking to digitalize all their memories were willing to sponsor. Finally found some time to set it up today and I was able to digitalize my one and only holga roll(before it was given away as a present). The results above, I like. The shoulder's recovering well.
