This is Miu Miu.

This is Miu Miu, my adopted kitten, named after Jaime's bag. When they found her, last Friday, stuck in the air con vent above the staff room at work, she was all shivering and sickly. Nobody knew what to do with her. She seemed close to death. The vet said she had a bad case of flu, potentially fatal for a little kitten. I decided to bring bring her home to see if she could be saved. Right now shes jumping around my room, chasing imaginary mice, which I think, is a pretty good indicator that the efforts of my brother, my sister and me have paid off.

DOF

Depth of field depends on:
1. Aperture size
2. Focal length (mm)
3. Distance

The smaller the aperture, the deeper the depth of field.
The shorter the lens focal length, the deeper the depth of field
The greater the shooting distance, the deeper the depth of field.

I am next!

These are the days worth living.

Saturday was hectic but very enjoyable. In the morning we raided Ang Mo Kio, helping Lulu 'capture' his bride. In the afternoon, I met Jaime for a quick lunch and then it was off to Jade Peony Restaurant to photograph the evening festivities. With a big camera attached with a bigger lens, my wrist was sore at the end of the evening but it was worth it. I feel privileged and happy that I was able to do my part in this celebration of love, helping to capture priceless moments in the lives of my friends.

Keane on August.

August will be a good month. Keane last night at Fort Canning was excellent. We are going diving next weekend and then the very next, the Fab 5 will be here for their DNA concert! Now I just need to think of a good present......

憨人

So many books on the shelf I have yet to find the time to read...

Feeling morose about going back to work tomorrow, this morning of this last day of the long weekend. Rain-haze grey weather doesn't help. I think it's quite a common symptom for the majority of my peers, who like me, work to live. Is it so hard to find a job I love? Or is it simply a case of me not looking hard enough, not daring to step out of my comfort zone?

We the citizens of Singapore pledge ourselves.....

I said the pledge out loud at 8.22pm today. Jaime felt I was being retarded but i did not mind since it was for our nation's birthday.

Happy Birthday Singapore!!!

Sweetest Days

"All the while life is rushing by us, hold it now and don't let go"

Vanessa Williams' Sweetest Days has got to be the most nostalgia-inducing song ever.

50mm Series E AIS

My Ebay purchase, the Nikon 50mm series E ais just arrived today. Long weekend coming up. Need to ramp up my shooting to complete my black and white project. Only 2 prints so far. This weekend will be crucial. The Keane concert is next thursday, which means I will have to miss one darkroom session. The tickets were bought before the term commenced, so there's no help for it. No choice but to go out and enjoy the concert. I probably will and I hope Jaime does too!

Color Relationships in photography.

Needless to say, color is an important component in photography. If composed carefully, images with intense color, even those having little variation in light and shade can have lots of impact. In envisioning the image, we should pay greater attention on how we use colors.

What you see above is a color wheel. The colors of strongest contrast lie opposite to each other on the color wheel. Blue lies opposite and is complementary to orange. Harmonic colors lie next together on the color whel(e.g yellow with orange or red with orange). The mood when these colors are brought together is passive compared to complementary colors.

We were happy because we thought they would be able to help. We were wrong.

I am not impressed with our Singapore Zoo. This afternoon, Brandon and I, we brought a sick Grey Heron there to see the vet. The guys at the security post wanted to turn us away, saying the zoo did not accept birds. "You have flamingoes no? You have birds here? Your vet can surely help." I quizzed them. But they stuck to their line. No birds. I am sure if we had an ostrich or a super rare bird, the response would be different. Luckily we already called before that, from the Animal Rescue Veterinary Centre(ARVC), where the vet there, (really caring and helpful but unfortunately they did not have expertise for wild animals) who used to work at the zoo, pulled some strings apparently and the vet at the zoo said we could bring our ward down. Eventually after some explaining, they allowed us to leave her at the zoo, but we were told she would probably be put down.

I am sad.I am not sure we did the right thing bringing her to the zoo. I thought they would have the expertise. However, they did not give me the impression they cared at all for the welfare of the animal. For sure I will not be visiting our "World Class" Zoo anytime soon.

Too abstract for me.

A week earlier, I attended the Observatory's gig at Blujazz with Lu. Not your mainstream act. While in the past I was able to appreciate a handful of tracks, this time round, granted the awful sound system may have been a factor, I think their music has become too abstract even for me. Lu will agree.
