Family Histories

On our first family vacation after so many years, we heard stories on the drive back to Perth from Lancelin about how during the Japanese Occupation, my grandfather and his cousins broke into a warehouse belonging to the Imperial Japanese Army for sacks of rice to feed the starving family, about the grand aunt who perished in a bombing on Chineses New Year's Day which explains why the uncle we visit every Chinese New Year is always in tears remembering the loss of his mother.

Shooting food before I go off to Perth for a family holiday. After all this, I am sure I will be sick of burgers and fries.

Saturday.

Shoot 2/3 for the day. Portuguese superstar Deco at the Fullerton.

Transatlanticism.

"Let me take you guys to see the sea." And so we went to Harlingen to see the Atlantic Ocean at midnight and froze when the wind swept in and talked about ouija boards and leprechauns, of the rat race and escaping it, about mistakes and regrets and ran and ran as the cold rain beat down, happy to be alive.

Holland: There and Back
